About SpiritHorse Ranch
Located in central British Columbia, SpiritHorse Ranch is the largest
breeder of Canadian horses in the province.
In Spring of 2000, Michael and I left city life behind and moved to
the land. We fell in love with the beautiful Beaver Valley, near
Williams Lake, and were fortunate to find 180 acres located along a
chain of lakes. We wanted to raise some livestock and were looking at
everything from llamas to deer.
One day a friend told us about a rare breed of horse, the Canadian,
that was soon to become Canada's national horse. We were
intrigued....so with the help of another BC breeder, imported our
first mare. We knew that the Canadian was a very hardy breed suitable
as a light draft or riding horse BUT what a surprise this lovely mare
was. She followed us around everywhere, tried to walk right into the
tack room. We were hooked. In short time, we received a shipment of
horses from a reputable long-time breeder in Quebec.
Our emphasis has been on producing breeding stock with good
conformation and gentle temperament, preserving the traditional style
Canadian and the old rare bloodlines.
Now it is time for us to retire from breeding. Sharing our lives with
these amazing horses has been very special. It is a experience that
will live in our hearts forever. They are the most friendly,
intelligent, beautiful and kind animals.
The horses range from two year olds to herd sires with various degrees
of training. All are wormed regularly and handled every day.
We are located one hour northeast of William's Lake, British Columbia
toward the resort lakes of Likely. William's Lake has a regional
airport. Nearest metropolitan airports are Prince George, Vancouver
and Kamloops.

Horse Training at
SpiritHorse
Our focus, as producers of breeding stock, is to provide a horse that
is socialized with humans and other horses....a horse with gentle
temperament, good conformation, and ready for more intensive training.
Foals are handled from birth. Curious by nature, they are soon eager
to be touched. They are introduced to the halter and lead rope and are
gently touched all over. Once they can be haltered they learn to stand
tied. They learn to load into the trailer and to be caught in the
field. Their feet and legs handled and they are sacked out.
All horses are wormed Spring and Fall. Youngsters and pregnant mares
are vaccinated.
Young horses are free lunged in the round corral. They are walked on
the road as well as in the bush and they are bathed.
Foals are given plenty of time to be young horses, playing with each
other, learning to respect their standing in the herd. They have
plenty of room and soft ground to develop good movement, thus building
bone and muscle.
A small creek runs through the property so they naturally learn to
cross water.

Baron was National Champion at the National Futurity in l995.
His first son, Falcon, was Champion, Great Champion and Senior Champion of
Quebec in 1998.
Baron is of very rare lineage, only son of the mare Walken Baron Lilly
(one of two purebred mares from the stallion named Baron used at Upper
Canada Village).
Trained to drive and has been ridden.
This mature stallion is well mannered, always a gentleman. He is a
refined horse, even tempered through the breeding season. He gets
along well with other horses. He has enjoyed sharing a pasture with a
gelding. He can hand or pasture breed. He is gentle and loving with the
mares and does not rush them. His foals inherit his temperament.
We have not advertised Baron at stud but he has had breedings from mare
owners who were looking for him.
